Nomination of AS One for deletion

[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article AS One, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/AS One until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Melaen (talk) 20:38, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:ASCFGT002.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. dave pape (talk) 17:59, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

‎Cone (Volcano Type)

[edit]

Hi there!

I saw ‎Cone (Volcano Type) while doing New Page patrolling. It wasn't clear to me that it refers to anything other than a certain type of volcanic cone, so I made it a redirect to Volcanic cone. If this was a mistake, please find a source that explains more completely what the basic essence of the subject is. If you need help with this process, please drop a note on my talk page. --Slashme (talk) 16:04, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,
The current situation is that ‎Cone (Volcano Type) is a redirect page to Volcanic cone. If I understand your reply correctly, this is acceptable. Please let me know if I misunderstood you! --Slashme (talk) 13:29, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Paricutin and 'new volcanoes'

[edit]

What annoys me about Paricutin and the new volcano stuff, is that most of it isnt true, paricutin is part of a larger and older volcanic field fed by the same, basic magma source.

'NEW VOLCANOES' 1. Izalco, El Salvador, Formed in 1770 2. Waiowa, Papua New Guinea, Formed in 1943 3. Cerro Negro, Nicaragua, Formed in 1850 4. Novarupta, Alaska, USA, Formed in 1912 5. Dallol, Ethiopia, Formed in 1926 6. Tor Zawar, Pakistan, Formed in 2010

Tecnically Tor Zawar is the newest volcano in the world (tor zawar is not a mud volcano, it is a magmatic volcano)

by contrast to the volcanoes above, the volcanic field that paricutin and jorullo were born in is pliestocene in age.

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Tor+zawar2.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 14:14, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tambora last eruption

[edit]

I reverted your latest edit at Tambora, then undid my own revert and then added the gvp cite. The thing is, think about what it means. We know the last eruption was between 25 and 65 years ago, but we know no more than that? Sounds doubtful. Either that's a typo on the site or Global Volcanism Program is not doing a very good job and it shakes my confidence in the source. Also for some time last year the wiki Tambora page had 2011 for the latest eruption. Know were that came from or was it left over vandalism?--Racerx11 (talk) 15:56, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I appreciate the explanantion. That would make sense if we are talking about hundreds of years ago. Example: Last eruption 1750 +/- 20 years. Completely understandable. But there is no way I can believe that if they know there was a recent eruption that they can't tell whether it occurred in the 1940's or the 80's. Unacceptable error margin for something that recent. I just can't buy that one, sorry.--Racerx11 (talk) 00:08, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am not planning on reverting it or anything. It is properly cited now and such. Just venting my own doubts and opinions.--Racerx11 (talk) 00:17, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 01:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mount Lassen eruption end date

[edit]

Hello, Noble fan. In Wikipedia editing, it is generally futile to state "do not undo this edit" in the edit summary. Wikipedia editing is collaborative: everyone tries to improve the article together.

Now, as to the specific end date: I did a Google Books search, and found that some of the references said that the eruptions ended in 1917, while others state that it ended in 1921. The reference that explained this discrepancy was Ann Harris' book on the Geology of the National Parks, which stated that, indeed, there were major eruptions that ended in June 1917, but that activity continued until 1921. I think it's simply a matter of differing definitions of when an eruption ends.

When sources are contradictory, then Wikipedia should describe the controversy, rather than take sides. This is one of the fundamental pillars of editing the encyclopedia. Another pillar is using reliable sources --- we simply cannot make controversial assertions -- they have to be backed up with sources. Your last edit left the article contradicting the source that it was taken from, which is not how we work.

Hopefully this is helpful: let's work together to make the article have a neutral point of view about the end date. —hike395 (talk) 14:24, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok then. When you say activity ended in 1921 do you mean fumarolic activity?
The Smithsonians Global Volcanism Program states that eruptive activity ended in June 29th, 1917. If that is the case the article should read "Eruptive activity ended on June 29th, 1917, but fumarolic activity continued until 1917"
Is that OK?
Regards, Noble Fan  — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noble fan (talkcontribs) 09:58, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Both the Harris book and the NPS website state that (minor) fumarolic activity continues to this day, so I suspect it was something larger. The sources do not specify what type of eruptions/activity happened between 1917 and 1921, so we should not speculate in the article. —hike395 (talk) 16:08, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
